Meet the Carter Family

Six-year-old Eric Carter enjoys repairing anything he can find with his tool set. But sometimes in life, you can’t fix things alone. Eric was born 26-weeks premature and hospitalized shortly after due to a mass found on his left lung. Eric also battles Asthma, Acid Reflux Disease, and Celiac Disease which he receives ongoing treatment for at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, one of the largest clinical care providers for children in the country.

Once a month for the past six years, the Carter family has been driving to Atlanta from their home in South Georgia for Eric’s treatments. Hotel costs during their visits became financially impossible. The Carter’s found themselves skipping meals and unable to pay bills. Their financial burden was soon lifted when they were referred to the Atlanta Ronald McDonald House. Here, the family is able to rest comfortably knowing that they have a safe place to call home.

Eric’s favorite part of the house is playing Bingo. While he works to become the Bingo champion of the House, his parents are able to meet other parents and create a network of support. Throughout Eric’s journey, it is the unfailing support of friends and family that keep the Carter family strong.

“The Atlanta Ronald McDonald House has been the biggest answer to our prayers.
The only word to describe it is
blessing.” — Shemorrow Carter
