Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities Awards $150,000 in Scholarships to Local Graduating High School Seniors

ATLANTA | July 16, 2016 – Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities (ARMHC) awarded $150,000 in scholarships to the class of 2016.  The scholarships were awarded to 40 rising college freshmen from throughout the greater Atlanta area including 10 students who received four-year scholarships.

The goal of the RMHC scholarship program is to help students better afford their college education.  This year RMHC scholarship recipients will attend prestigious institutions such as Stanford University, University of Georgia, Georgia Tech and Yale University.

“ARMHC is fortunate to have the support of the Greater Atlanta McDonald’s Owners/Operators Association who are committed to helping local students who may not have means to afford a college education,” says Vivian de Jesus, ARMHC board member and scholarship committee chair.

The local RMHC scholarship program has awarded more than $3 million in scholarships to students since its inception in 1995. Nationally, Ronald McDonald House Charities has awarded students more than $56 million.

The scholarship program is comprised of four individual scholarship programs: RMHC®/ASIA (Asian Students Increasing Achievement), RMHC®/African American Future Achievers, RMHC®/HACER® (Hispanic American Commitment to Educational Resources), and RMHC® Scholars. A committee made up of local educators, community leaders, McDonald’s representatives, ARMHC board members and others review applications and select winners based on criteria including academic achievement, financial need and community involvement.
