05 Jan Atlanta RHMC: a Shining Light for the Nolen Family
“Atlanta RMHC was the shining light when my son, Maddox Nolen, was being treated for Salt Wasting Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia and Hypoglycemia,” Taylor Nolen says.
Maddox, from Temple, Georgia, was just a week old when he was rushed to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta on Christmas night in 2019. He was having an adrenal crisis, and it was almost fatal.
The Nolens were informed of Atlanta RMHC the next morning when Maddox was in the NICU. Since they live an hour away, they were relieved they would be able to stay close to Maddox. “We would not have been able to spend as much time with our son without Atlanta RMHC,” Taylor says.
Taylor, her husband, Brett, and their two other children stayed with us at our House near Scottish Rite. “We were all able to have a place to stay and food to eat,” she says. “Everything we needed was provided by Atlanta RMHC, and it made a very difficult and traumatic time a little easier.”
While Maddox was too young to remember our House, his siblings certainly do. They loved Ronald’s Holiday Shop where Taylor and Brett surprised them with a few gifts. “Our son’s emergency happened on Christmas, so the Holiday Shop helped make up for that,” Taylor says.
Taylor and Brett appreciated the support, care, and love they received at our House. During a traumatic experience, they did not have to worry about anything except being there for Maddox. “I cannot say how much of a blessing that was,” Taylor says.
The Nolens want others to know how “amazing” and “wonderful” Atlanta RMHC is. “It was a light in a very dark place for my family,” Taylor says. “They make it to where you can just focus on your child, and that changed everything for us.”
“Atlanta RMHC truly helps families in some of the most difficult times of their lives, and they provide comfort and peace from the moment families walk in the door,” Taylor says.
