09 Dec Frequently Asked Questions
When will the new House open?
Construction for Atlanta RMHC’s new 127,631-square-foot, five-story, North Druid Hills House began in early 2024. We anticipate opening the doors in late 2025.
How many rooms will the new House have?
More than doubling the capacity of the House near Egleston, the new House will have 92 spacious guest rooms and 18 transplant suites. Development was originally planned in two phases, however in response to unprecedented demand, Atlanta RMHC’s Board of Directors and leadership decided to execute both phases at once to meet the urgent need for increased capacity and save more than $4 million in construction costs.
How much will it cost?
- Approximately $80 million is needed for construction of a new, 110-room, state-of-the-art Ronald McDonald House, featuring regular guest rooms and transplant suites, a whimsical Discovery Garden, an immersive five-story indoor playscape and communal areas for cooking, dining, activities and more.
- In addition to building a House, we are developing a community of care that supports individual needs and fosters connection through shared experiences through the healing journey. Sustaining a New World of Care costs another $10 million and supports capacity building initiatives, including a program innovation fund, a maintenance reserve fund and expanded operating expenses.
Why is Atlanta RMHC building a New House?
Since 1979, Atlanta RMHC has strengthened nearly 80,000 families, keeping them together and close to life-saving care during their most difficult times. Today, there is an exponential demand for our services. Atlanta RMHC is an increasingly critical partner in ensuring access to pediatric healthcare. When the new House opens, families will experience unprecedented access to a New World of Care. Together, with your support, we will open the Ronald McDonald House for the next generation — one that is built on connection, comfort, hope, and healing, continuing our 45-year legacy of world-class care.
Is this a third Ronald McDonald House or is this replacing an existing one?
Our House near Egleston will remain in operation until the new House opens, after which all programming and services from Egleston will transition to the North Druid Hills campus. The House at Scottish Rite will continue serving families in need with no change to its operations.
