17 Apr Vandana Volunteers to Support Families Like Her’s
April is Volunteer Appreciation Month, when we salute and honor the many dedicated and gracious volunteers, who help support our mission of helping families access equitable medical care and heal together.
Meet some of the volunteers who help care for our families. To all our volunteers, thank you for your unwavering support.
Vandana Vijay Kumar
Vandana Vijay Kumar, has been volunteering as a Teen Council and VolunTeen member since summer 2021. She was inspired to volunteer when extended family stayed at the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House nine years ago.
Her cousin was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia was treated at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. During his hospitalization, Vandana’s family visited and stayed with his parents at the Philadelphia House.
“The unwavering support system that Philadelphia RMHC gave to our family inspired me to get involved at home with Atlanta RMHC,” Vandana says.
Recently, Vandana and her friends held an arts and crafts activity night and enjoyed meeting several parents while their children were painting and laughing.
“Even with unimaginable circumstances, these families were some of the kindest people I have ever met, and it was incredible to see genuine smiles from the children,” she says.
Vandana loves planning events and helping families. Her favorite volunteer activity is planning and raising donations for the annual Teen Council fundraiser.
“I have seen firsthand the impact charities like Atlanta RMHC can have on families and am happy I get to be a part of supporting them,” Vandana says.
