13 Oct Meet Sharlene Smith, Volunteer, Board Member and Raffle Prompter
Meet Sharlene Smith, who has served on the Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities Board of Directors for seven years. Always willing to share her perspective as a business leader and donor, she chairs the Marketing Committee and serves on the Executive Committee.
“I started volunteering about 20 years ago, and I’ll never forgot the first time I took my son to help cook breakfast for the families when he was 5,” Sharlene says of how she got involved. “His job was to hand out Happy Meal toys and juice. On the way home he said, he was so happy he could help the kids and he thanked God we were healthy. From that day forward, we have volunteered together at the Ronald McDonald House.”
Supporting the House is a family affair for Sharlene, who along with her wife, Charice, are devoted to helping families with sick children. “The charity aligns with our core values to help others and give back as we have been so blessed,” she says. “Knowing that the work we do helps families in their time of need is an amazing feeling.”
Prior to the pandemic, their support includes organizing company-wide volunteer events at their company, Healthsource Chiropractic, to cook for our families and providing massages for our families. They have sponsored the Hearts and Hands Gala, as well as donated auction items and sponsored the first Atlanta RMHC 5K race.
Sharlene is a major seller of BMW raffle tickets, and was thrilled to drive around the specially wrapped BMW with images of our families around Alpharetta and Milton to promote sell tickets. To date, she has helped raise more than $8,000 through her Raffle ticket sales.
“We love volunteering as a family at events and cooking meals for the families,” Sharlene says. “I have thoroughly enjoyed leading the Marketing Committee because I am a results-driven person and it is great to see the growth in donors and awareness of the Charity.”
