18 Apr Grandson’s Cancer Leads Angela Kendall to Help Other Families
We are celebrating National Volunteer Appreciation Week and saluting all our volunteers who make a difference every day for our families.
Meet Angela Kendall, one of our amazing Ronald McDonald Family Room volunteers and meal donors. She provides a meal for the families once a month after her son and daughter-in-law spent time in the Family Room during their 2-year-old son, Henry’s, cancer treatment.
“During a stay at CHOA early on in our grandson’s brain cancer diagnosis, my son and his wife both commented on what a blessing it was to them to have a meal provided each day in the Family Room,” Angela says. “I knew immediately that I wanted to be a part of that and my husband agreed. I had been praying for God to show me how we could help.”
“When someone you love is diagnosed with cancer, especially a precious grandson, you feel so helpless,” Angela says. “The comfort those meals provided my family comforted all of us on a soul deep level.”
Angela’s first meal was in March 2021. Since then, she donates Chick-Fil-A to the Family Room once a month to encourage families using it. “I get an awesome new memory each month when I get to see Jamesse (the Family Room Coordinator). She is such a pillar of strength and encouragement.”
Today, Angela reports that Henry is doing well and just celebrated his second birthday with a block party with friends.
“The work that RMHC Atlanta does for families is precious and priceless,” Angela says. We would say the same about our volunteers.
