04 May Giving back is at the heart of the Rosado Family
“We know the impact this organization has on families, and some of the burden that is removed during an overwhelming and stressful time,” says Mikka Rosado during a recent trip to Atlanta when she, husband Gregg and son Zeke, 4, dropped off #WishList supplies.
The Rosados made the trip for Zeke’s third and final palliative surgery to treat Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. “He did amazing!” Mikka says. “He totally exceeded expectations, and was discharged five days post-op.”
An alumni family, they stayed at the Ronald McDonald House in Salt Lake City where Zeke was born and had his first surgery. Now they live in South Georgia and travel to his out-of-town appointments in a camper.
“Every time we come to Atlanta, we like to have something to donate and give back to help other families,” says Mikka. “With Zeke’s surgery coming up, we decided to do a supply drive at Gregg’s job in hopes of getting a truck load of supplies to donate. We were shocked at the amount of supplies we received. We ended up needing to use our toy hauler, truck, and SUV to deliver the supplies!”
The donation of 16,500 items came from the members of the 23d Maintenance Squadron, Propulsion Flight, at Moody Air Force Base. The supply drive was organized by Gregg as a way to give back. They personally know the impact the #WishList supplies have for families staying at our Houses.
“We utilized the Ronald McDonald house in Salt Lake City,” Mikka says. “Having a clean place to sleep, shower, and food provided for us, allowed us to focus on our boy, while still taking care of ourselves.”
