16 Apr Love of Families Pulls Volunteer Destinie Ames Into Atlanta RMHC Community
In search of a volunteer opportunity, Destinie Ames (on right) found a way to make a difference at Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities. While she loved volunteering at different organizations with her friends or co-workers, Destinie was looking for something consistent.
“After driving by the Peachtree Dunwoody House many times, one day it caught my eye and I decided to go online and research volunteer opportunities,” Destinie says. With her love for kids, she found the Charity was a good fit.
“I filled out the form, received a call and then begin as a Guest Services Volunteer,” Destinie says.
Destinie has been volunteering at both Houses for almost three years. Her favorite memories so far are, “when one of the kiddos remembers you and gets a smile on their face… those are the best moments.”
Every time Destinie volunteers, she is in awe of the joy and community fills each House.
“While the families we serve are going through rough times, they tend to be examples of the most positive and grateful human beings,” Destinie says.
“The kids are smiley and having fun in spite of limitations they might have or pain or discomfort they might be feeling. It gives me perspective and inspiration,” Destinie says. “If they can do it, so can I!”
Destinie is inspired by the commitment and dedication of her fellow volunteers and enjoys being a part of the volunteer team.
