16 Nov Volunteer Spotlight: Charlotte Kulkin Puts Thought into Action
For many years, Charlotte Kulkin passed the original Peachtree-Dunwoody Ronald McDonald House on her way to work. After watching the new House being built, she decided it was time to see what she could do to help, “I had always wanted to volunteer so I made the decision to stop and that was all it took!” she says two years later.
Charlotte volunteers at the Peachtree-Dunwoody House every other Thursday afternoon and at different functions throughout the year. Her volunteer efforts are motivated by the interpersonal connections she makes with the families, staff and other volunteers.
“I always feel needed and appreciated by the staff and the stories from families on what the house means to them melts my heart,” she says.
Charlotte can be found doing anything and everything at the House. She has tackled tidying up the kitchen and game room, stocking the pantry, giving tours, or writing thank you letters to donors.
“Volunteering at ARMHC makes me feel thankful for the ability to give back,” she says.
Charlotte’s altruistic nature is contagious. Apparently, she was talking about her time at the Ronald McDonald House to a few co-workers and, before she knew it, a group had decided on cooking a dinner for the families. It is the highlight of the year, in the office, and now a few co-workers are regular volunteers.
The time Charlotte spends at the Peachtree-Dunwoody House helps to create balance.
“I can arrive at the House after my crazy day at work, leave that all in my car, and be present in the moment,” she says.
Charlotte made her best thoughts into action and reaps the benefits, “The staff and the families give so much more back to me,” she says.
