An Interview with Kevin Cannon, Field Services Manager at Martin-Brower Company and ARMHC Volunteer

How and when did this special partnership begin?
In 2000 Tom Staebell, our Transportation Manager, helped serve dinner on Wednesday nights and would do some handyman jobs as well.  In 2001, Martin Brower committed to sponsoring dinner on the fourth Tuesday of each month, a tradition we proudly continue to this day.

How does Martin Brower support the Ronald McDonald House?
We prepare and serve monthly dinners at the Peachtree Dunwoody House, monthly employee luncheons at our distribution center to raise funds for the Houses, employee donations through payroll deduction, an employee sponsored golf tournament which has raised almost $30,000 in the first three years, sponsor the luncheon at the quarterly ARMHC staff meeting, sponsorship of many regional RMHC events and, most recently, a commitment of $50,000 to the capital campaign of the Peachtree Dunwoody House.

What is your favorite meal to cook for the families?
Roasted beef tenderloin, seasoned sautéed shrimp, roasted asparagus, baked potato casserole, freshly baked crescent rolls, freshly baked cupcakes and sweet tea. This is the meal we serve each month. We want to make an impression!

What is the best part about Martin Brower’s partnership with ARMHC?
Knowing that we make a difference in the lives of those we serve at our monthly dinners. Also, knowing that we serve a greater cause through our continued support of Ronald McDonald House Charities.

What is a special memory from volunteering at the House?
There are so many young people and their families staying at the House that we have visited with on several occasions. We are able to track their progress through our monthly dinners, and they appreciate the hard work of the volunteers and meal donors. For my family and me, we are reminded each month by those we serve what it means to be courageous and hopeful. We are so grateful to play a role at the Ronald McDonald House and consider it a privilege to serve the families staying there.
