The Family Room

Providing support and hospitality for those ‘escaping’ the hospital setting.

Since opening in August 2017, the Ronald McDonald Family Room has welcomed nearly 10,000 patients and their families within the AFLAC Cancer and Blood Disorder Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta — Scottish Rite. With the new Arthur M. Blank Hospital opening in late September, the oncology/hematology unit will be transferring services to it. The Ronald McDonald Family Room Agreement with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta — Scottish Rite will end on August 5, 2024.

The Ronald McDonald Family Room has been a crucial part of the oncology/hematology unit by providing warm meals, snacks, activity kits and a safe space of respite for patients and families. Thank you.

Family Room Staff and Volunteers provide hospitality for those who seek respite. When available, meals are provided by volunteers throughout the week. During open hours, families can prepare meals in our cozy kitchen area, enjoy snacks and find comfortable, relaxed seating. Our kitchen area includes access to a sink, a convection microwave oven to heat meals and a family refrigerator and freezer to store personal food.

What does this mean?

  • The Ronald McDonald Family Room will continue to serve families through Sunday, August 4, 2024.
  • Families will continue to have access to meals, pantry items, and available family kits (laundry, toiletry, activity, etc.)
  • Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta will manage the space as a Family Lounge starting Monday, August 5, 2024.
