Advisory Council celebrating a birthday

Making Birthdays Meaningful at Atlanta RMHC!

Just because you have to be away from home during your birthday doesn’t mean you can’t have fun! Recently our Board of Directors and Advisory Council members served dinner to our families at both Houses and helped kids celebrate their birthdays.

The Advisory Council helped Bailee celebrate her Sweet Sixteen birthday on September 27th at our House near Scottish Rite with plenty of balloons and a large cake in her favorite colors: mint and lavender. Her request for dinner that evening was her favorite, Hawaiian pizza. The night was full of play and laughter and all of the families staying at the House sang her “Happy Birthday.” Bailee’s extended family from Woodstock even traveled to the House to join in the celebration.

Our Board of Directors then served up a Build-Your-Own Mexican Fiesta Bar at our House near Egleston later that week. Many of their family members joined them in serving dinner to our families. Our House guests loved the dinner so much that seconds and thirds were eaten! Board members ate with the families on the outside patio as a birthday party was being set up inside.

It’s My Birthday, an organization dedicated to helping children celebrate no matter their situation, planned a wonderful birthday party for all the children with September and October birthdays. MeKala, Alexis, Ronald, and Eshani enjoyed their gifts and cake donated by the volunteer group. The kids even offered the Board members and their children some of their cake!

We’re proud to celebrate our families while staying at their “home away from home.”
